LOBI TRAORE – Barra Coura: Acoustic Bamana Blues
Lobi Traore offers the world some of the grittiest blues to come out of Mali with this, his first acoustic album. Lobi’s roots in the Segou region of Mali, and his close familial connections to the Komo secret society, hive him a real, profound, and personal relationship with the source of much of Mali’s own “blues” heritage.
This recording pairs Lobi with his band’s rhythm guitarist, Lamine Soumano, to showcse the rough power of his songs and the dirty soulfulness of his guitar. The energy here is in its natural state, raw and compelling. For those who have never heard Lobi, he has been hailed by such blues giants as Bonnie Raitt and Ali Farka Toure. For those who know him well, Barra Coura displays the acoustic, never before recorded side of his music.
